Frequently Asked Questions

Oxnard Homeless Prevention (OHP)

QIs the Oxnard Homeless Prevention Fund a 501(c)(3)?
AThe OHP is a 501(c)(3) corporation. Our federal EIN is 93-4954521. For information on the impact of a donation on your own tax situation, please consult your tax advisor.
QWhy was the fund created and who is it designed to help?
AOxnard Homeless Prevention is intended to assist residents of the city of Oxnard who have one-time, extraordinary needs that put them at risk for homelessness.
QWhat will I need to do to be considered?
AYou will need to do the following:
* Demonstrate a one-time need for assistance that will allow you to maintain housing
* Provide documents confirming you are a current resident of the city of Oxnard
* Provide documents confirming you currently have housing in the city of Oxnard
* Provide income and/or employment verification
* Agree to allow information to be shared with other OHP provider organizations in order to prevent a double allocation
* Work cooperatively with your case manager to confirm there are not other means to address your circumstances; i.e., if the shortfall is due to a medical bill, that contact can’t be made with healthcare provider and reasonable accommodation made or payment plan worked out
* Provide contact information so that the Service Provider/Case Manager will be able to contact you in 90 days and in one year to confirm you still have housing
QWho decides if the OHP is right for my case?
AYour case manager must confirm the extraordinary circumstance.  They must confirm that these   funds are the right funds to access and that the individual is not likely to be back in the same circumstance within the year.  Case managers are experienced and trained for this work.  They are the ones to make that decision.
QAre there other services I might qualify for?
AYour case manager will also provide referrals with other services; i.e., Food Stamps, CalWorks, household budgeting guidance, education/work training programs, etc.
QIf there is more than one person in my household, can we both apply for OHP assistance?
AOnly one member of the household may apply for funds
QHow often can I apply to the OHP for assistance?
AFunds may be used one time in a 12-month period.
QCan my landlord or the company I owe money to apply to the fund on my behalf?
AOnly the individual who is at risk of homelessness may request the funds (not the landlord or mortgage company; however, checks must be made out to those entities)
QWhat if I applied for assistance somewhere else.  For instance, could I apply and receive approval from Salvation Army and Catholic Charities?
AYou can only receive funds from OHP once in a year. Your case manager will help determine if you also qualify for other assistance, such as help with utilities.
QWhat if I only need a loan until I get my payments caught up?
AOnce you become financially secure again, if you would like to make a donation to the OHP, it would be much appreciated.  100% of your donation will go back into the OHP to help other Oxnard residents in need.
